Reading Emotions
After focusing yesterday on working with a group, the students learned about reading emotions today. As a class, we read the book "Lots of Feelings".
We talked about when we feel different emotions. Then, the students rotated through 3 activities: Emotions charades, guessing what the emotion is and acting out the story as a group. To end the morning, each students started drawing three faces: a face that would show they are working in school, a face showing they are helping a friend and a face showing cooperation.

Measuring the classroom and working with a group
Today we launched into our math unit on measurment. Students were able to choose from a variety of items to measure different objects in the class. Afterwards, we talked about how you choose what to measure with - some tools are better suited for different objects!
This afternoon we worked on strategies on how to work with others. Students had to work in a group of 4 to design a playground. Afterwards, they reflected on how their group worked together and what strategies they used to help problem solve.

Jim Dine Inspired Hearts
In preparation for Valentine's Day, the grade 2's worked on an art project. We learned about Jim DIne, an American pop arist who has created different 'heart' paintings and sculptures. We then thought about what we wanted our hearts to mean - what colours would represent our different feelings. Students used pastels and watercolour paints to create their masterpiece! They then became part of our Valentine envelopes for exchanging Valentines!

Studying Inukshuks and writing story problems
Today we spent time reading a non-fiction book together as a class: The Inuksuk, Guide in the North. We learned that Inukshuks can have different meanings.
In math, we practiced solving addition problems. Students had the chance to write their own problems and challenge others to solve them. We then played an addition 'go fish' game to practice making 10.
