December: Subitizing
In the new year, students will be working on addition and subtraction strategies for adding numbers 1 -18. To warm up, students should have a strong understanding of number relationships. The following activities will help them develop their number sense:
1. Ten Frame Games
2. Math Baseball: Addition and Subtraction
November: Patterning
We are moving into patterning. Students should be able to recognize patterns, extend a pattern, define what an 'attribute' is and verbalize what the 'core' of their pattern is. Check out these links to help your student extend their patterns!
1. Solve the number sequence. Students need to figure out what the number pattern is (challenging activity)
2. Pattern Mania
3. Pattern Blocks
In math, we are working on our Number Sense. This means skip-counting to 100 by 2's, 5's and 10's.
We will be working with hundreds charts and number lines, as well as other manipulatives.
Check out these links to help your student master their numbers!
1. Balloon Pop Skip Count
2. Give the dog a bone - using the hunderds chart to find numbers
3. Ghost skip counting by 5's - fill in the missing number
4. Color in the hundreds chart - create your own skip count pattern
