Students are beginning a research project on an Arctic animal. They had a choice of what animal they would like to study. Choices have included polar bears, harp seals, arctic fox, killer whales and the snowy owl. We have created brainstorming webs. The students had to think of all the questions they wanted to answer about their animal. TOday, we learned how to look for information in a non-fiction book. Students have started recording their findings on their web as well.
In math, we learned a new strategy for addition: doubles plus one. This helps us for questions like 6 +7 - we know that 6 +6 is 12 and one more is 13! We will keep practicing this strategy tomorrow.
